I’ve been involved in extensive marketing-media work with Merrill Lynch Wealth Management, working as editor on a many brochures, fact sheets, Web sites, and single-page ads designed to promote the services of Merrill Lynch Financial Advisors. This involved careful, thoughtful interviewing; the development of creative briefs; original composition, editing, and rewriting of copy; editing copy to design; and client review and sign-off. Embedded in a small creative team (among a group of teams), I worked closely with account managers, project managers, senior writers, and designers to produce these marketing materials. A specific, crucial editor responsibility was my review of copy/content to detect triggers for disclosures or disclaimers. I also managed directly the interface with Compliance (Legal and Registered Principles) for its review of the marketing materials and the implementation of Compliance edits and changes. Editorial process included daily and weekly deadlines, frequent client communication, and proper editorial management of copy created for Merrill Lynch branded programs.
